You can take your boat to any marina for gas on Lake Travis, but the Northshore Marina fuel docks are the most convenient, safe, and welcoming.
Boaters and their family and friends can count on a supportive and safe experience when fueling up at Northshore Marina. While visiting boat fuel docks is a frequent occurrence for boaters, it’s still important to remember how to be safe when docking and filling up at any marina. It’s easy to let unexpected distractions deter you from following the best safety practices, especially while getting gas.
By filling up your tank at Northshore Marina, the risk for accidents is reduced immensely with our well-maintained docks and fuel equipment. Though, what really makes a difference is our responsible team of expert dockhandlers to guide and support you through this weekly errand. This combination of supervised equipment and elite customer service makes Northshore Marina one of Lake Travis’s safest marinas.

Safety tips for getting gas on Lake Travis

Having a team of dockhandlers assist you as you juggle fueling up the boat, your kids running around on the dock, and the dog barking does set you up for success. However, there are things you can do on your own to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your vessel from potential danger.
America’s Boating Club Houston has several recommendations for practicing the proper safety while fueling up on gas on Lake Travis:
- Keep a fire extinguisher near the vessel’s cockpit area or by the fueling accessories area. View the Coast Guard’s federal requirements for fire extinguishers, here.
- Look out for leaks. Clean up spilled fuel, and dispose of any used absorbent material pads responsibly and appropriately.
- Monitor your vessel’s fuel gauge as you’re pumping gas. When warmer weather arrives, fuel in your boat’s tank can expand if left unattended for a period of time – causing expensive and avoidable damage.
So, as you make your way to the fuel docks, keep these precautions in mind to ensure you, your loved ones, and your vessel are safe from the rare but potential dangers of gasoline.

Tips for better boat fuel efficiency
It’s no secret that boat fuel is expensive. Owning a boat in general is expensive, but those weekly fuel runs add up quickly. If it feels like you’re going through gasoline like water, there are a few things you can do to possibly help.
According to Texas Saltwater Fishing Magazine, there are a few simple ways to help with managing your boat’s gas efficiency:
- Take your outboard engine in for a tune-up: Well-maintained and summerized engines work smoother than an engine that just came out of dry storage.
- Choose the optimal propeller: TSFM says the right propeller can potentially help your vessel’s fuel efficiency by 10 percent.
- The best piece of advice: “If you have four friends big enough to play defensive lineman for the Cowboys, maybe don’t take them all fishing on the same day.”
Purchasing gas is an expensive necessity for all boaters. Luckily, these few considerations could help with the cost of owning a boat.
